Communication with casualties
- Be honest about their condition
- Be careful of what you say which could distress them further
- Maintain eye contact when talking to them, and be aware of your body language
- Take your time when talking to them
- Allow your casualty to explain how they are feeling if they are able to
- Avoid medical terms that they may not understand
Bystanders
A bystander can be of real benefit to you so always ask for help.
A bystander can support you by:
- Phoning the emergency services
- Getting a first aid kit and defibrillator (AED)
- Managing crowds and traffic
- Consoling relatives and friends
- Helping you provide first aid if they are trained to do so
