Dealing with casualties
- Prioritise your treatment, particularly if you have multiple casualties
- Ensure safety for all
- Protect against contamination
- Be calm and confident
- Ensure that the appropriate emergency services have been called for
Communicating with casualties
- Be honest about their condition
- Be careful of what you say which could distress them further
- Maintain eye contact when talking to them, and be aware of your body language
- Take your time when talking to them
- Allow your casualty to explain how they are feeling if they are able to
- Avoid medical terms that they may not understand
