Epilepsy is a common condition that affects the brain causing frequent epileptic seizures.
Having a single seizure doesn’t always mean that someone has epilepsy which is usually only diagnosed after a person has had more than one seizure.
There are different types of epilepsy which can start at any age but is usually either in childhood or in people over 60.
Epilepsy is often a lifelong condition but can sometimes improve over time and most people can live normal lives if their seizures are well controlled by professionally prescribed medication.
