Responsibilities of a first aider

A First Aider has a number of responsibilities, both on an ongoing basis and when dealing with an incident. A First Aider may not be responsible for every aspect, but their duties could include the following:
- Checking first aid supplies and equipment
- Re-ordering first aid supplies
- Ensuring adequate first aid cover
- Maintaining the accident book
- Responding to incidents
When dealing with an incident, a First Aider’s responsibilities can be broken up into the following categories:
- Arriving at the scene
- Dealing with casualties
- Casualty communication
- Contacting the emergency services
- Prioritising the first aid treatment
- The clearing up process and infection control
